Joshua Reynolds was one of the greatest and most influential portrait painters of the eighteenth century, and the founder of the National Academy in London. Tod discovered Joshua Reynolds’ self-portrait in an antique center in New York City and purchased it for 700 USD. Realizing it was a masterpiece, he first had a top New York restorer in New York clean it, then contacted both a former top researcher from Sotheby’s Auction House, and Yale University, who holds the archives on Reynolds. They agreed the painting was indeed the missing Joshua Reynolds self-portrait. The painting was sold at one of the most important portrait galleries in London, for 1,000,000 USD.
